I recently found the name to a mystery plant I had bought, Alteranthera 'purple threadleaf'. In a previous post I mentioned that this plant would wilt unless given ample water, but would come back to life with about a gallon of water. We've had a string of 5 or 6 days here in Austin where temperatures have hit or have been very close to 100F. Here is what it looked like BEFORE I almost killed it.

Oh sad story. :-( I'll probably try to nurse it back to health, but one thing's for sure... a plant that's half it's former self uses a lot less water. Note to self: Alterantherae have HIGH water needs. Lesson learned.
